Five Ws with … San Diego County Bar Foundation

5 Ws

At J. Walcher Communications, we help organizations of all sizes expand their business and give their brands a bigger voice. One such organization is the San Diego County Bar Foundation – the charitable arm of the San Diego legal community and San Diego County Bar Association. JWC President Jean Walcher also serves on the SDCBF board of directors and Vice President Sandy Young serves on several SDCBF committees. Each year, this foundation gathers the county’s most prestigious judges, lawyers and legal supporters to socialize and network for a great cause at its Evening in La Jolla benefit.

Here’s a “Five Ws” look at the foundation and its mission.

WHO: The San Diego County Bar Foundation (SDCBF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing legal services to the underserved. Since its inception SDCBF has granted more than $3 million throughout the county and has funded over 50 legal aid and public interest organizations.

WHAT: Its grant-based system awards organizations that provide legal services to foster children and at-risk youth, the ill and disabled, the elderly, immigrants, domestic violence victims, the homeless and more. The grants also support programs that educate adults and children about the legal process and individuals’ rights and responsibilities.

WHEN: The Foundation’s funds come from contributions from the local legal and business communities and from fundraising programs throughout the year. The Foundation’s largest annual fundraiser is called Evening in La Jolla. In celebration of two decades of giving back, this signature fundraising event for the San Diego legal community will take place on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 6–10 p.m. JWC is a Silver Event Sponsor.

WHERE: SDCBF serves people and communities all throughout the local region that are impacted by poverty, abuse and discrimination. The Foundation’s generous grants have supported organizations in various neighborhoods spanning San Diego County, such as Father Joe’s Villages in the East Village and the Home of Guiding Hands in El Cajon.

WHY: The San Diego County Bar Foundation mission is to provide effective means of legal representation to the underserved. Fundraising events – such as Evening in La Jolla – help raise money to support SDCBF’s vital year-round work that provides San Diego’s underprivileged with necessary legal resources, education and access to justice. By providing these services to those in need, the community as a whole benefits.
