Public Relations and Marketing Summer Internship 

J. Walcher Communications is seeking creative and enthusiastic individuals to work part-time as public relations and marketing interns (minimum 15 hours per week).

We’re a boutique agency specializing in local, regional/national public relations and strategic communication campaigns. Working in a wide range of industries including real estate, consumer products, professional services, health and fitness, nonprofits and associations, sports/entertainment, hospitality and more, we help our clients build their businesses with smart and effective campaigns that set them apart from the competition.

Scope of Work
J. Walcher Communications interns will be involved in all aspects of the agency including media relations and research, writing, social media, event coordination, and client and product research for a variety of businesses. Interns will gain a practical understanding of the public relations industry as well as how to develop the tools necessary to compete and excel in this exciting and growing field.

Specific responsibilities include research, database management, maintaining media lists and client clip files, writing, proofreading, developing social media content, preparing presentation materials, as well as administrative support which includes phones, faxing/scanning, word processing, filing, copying and mail distribution.

Requirements

  • Prefer a college junior or senior majoring in journalism, public relations, communications or related discipline
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and internet experience necessary. Adobe Photoshop and Cision media database knowledge a plus.

Public Relations and Marketing Internship

The San Diego Film Festival, run by the 501(c)(3) nonprofit San Diego Film Foundation, is seeking a creative and enthusiastic individual to work part-time as a public relations and marketing intern (min. 15 hours/week), starting in June through Oct 4.

Founded in 2001, the San Diego Film Festival is the region’s premier showcase for outstanding U.S. and international independent filmmaking. The five-day event is an entertaining, enlightening and educational gathering that embraces the region’s diverse cultural landscape, enhances the arts community and expands the economic vitality of San Diego.

Scope of Work
The intern will be involved in many of the Film Festival’s PR and marketing efforts, including working closely with the Film Festival’s PR agency, J. Walcher Communications. The intern will assist with: media relations/research, writing, social media, event coordination, collateral coordination and client/film research. He/She will gain a practical understanding of the PR/marketing industry, as well as how to develop the tools necessary to excel in this exciting and fast-paced field.

Specific responsibilities include research, database management, maintaining media lists and client clip files/reports, writing/proofreading, website and social media optimization, photo coordination, event sales analysis and website assistance. Administrative support may include phones, faxing/scanning, filing, deliveries, copying and mail distribution.

Requirements

  • A recent college graduate, new professional or college junior/senior majoring in journalism, public relations, marketing, communications or related discipline
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as someone who is organized and detail-oriented
  • MUST be able to commit to internship through the San Diego Film Festival (Sept. 30 through Oct. 4), acknowledging that longer weekend and night hours will be required during the Film Festival and possibly on the days leading up to it
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook experience necessary. Adobe Photoshop, Cision media database and/or mailing systems knowledge a plus.

Location
The intern will split his/her time in between the San Diego Film Foundation’s office in Del Mar, and J. Walcher Communications’ South Park office (TBD).
