We’re Hiring: PR Assistant

You’re joining JWC in its 22nd year in business and working in our office, a historic Victorian home right outside East Village in Sherman Heights, where co-workers chat and brainstorm with each other while ordering way too much DoorDash.
J. Walcher Communications is seeking an ambitious and creative individual to join the team as a part-time PR assistant (20 hours/week) for a three-month contract. As the agency grows, the ideal person would morph into a full-time PR assistant or account coordinator.

The JWC PR assistant will be involved in all aspects of the agency including: media relations and research, writing, social media, influencer relations, video and content creation, event coordination (special events, press conferences, etc.), and client and product research for a variety of high-profile businesses and organizations.
Specific responsibilities include research, writing press materials, developing social media content and graphics, gathering and analyzing social media analytics, drafting and creating blog posts and e-communications, maintaining media lists and client clip files, proofreading, preparing presentation materials, and administrative support.
Every day will be different. You’ll learn a lot about the media landscape locally and nationally, and contribute greatly to JWC’s work and success.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and knowledge of AP Style
- Self-motivated, strong attention to detail and effective multi-tasker
- Creative writer and thinker; interest in news, culture and current events
- College graduate with a bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism or a relevant field, or related communications job experience preferred
- Completion of one PR, marketing or digital/social media internship highly preferred
- Experience with Excel, Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Cision media database, Critical Mention and/or Google Analytics a plus
- Must live in San Diego County
