Jean Walcher, Founder
Jean Walcher has more than 25 years of experience in the communications and marketing field. Her experience encompasses time on both the agency and client side with large and small public relations agencies in San Diego and New York City. She spent seven years working in Los Angeles in TV and film production/development.
Prior to launching J. Walcher Communications in 2001, Jean was vice president of marketing and public relations for the American Council on Exercise (ACE). ACE is a national nonprofit organization that functions as an association, builds credibility for the fitness industry, and educates the public about health and fitness topics.
Jean has worked at PR and full-service agencies in San Diego and New York, including three years at Ruder, Finn & Rotman, one of the country’s oldest PR firms. There, she oversaw the firm’s subcontracts with its “Field Network” – a group of independent PR agencies across the country. Later, she worked at a boutique agency specializing in sports and entertainment accounts before moving to L.A. to begin her film and TV work, which included production on national TV commercials and feature films.
She has also served on the boards of Serving Seniors, a nonprofit that helps seniors in poverty live healthy and fulfilling lives; Citizens Coordinate for Century 3 (C-3), one of San Diego’s primary advocates for urban planning, environmental quality and social progress, and the San Diego County Bar Foundation. She is currently on volunteer marketing committees for the new Institute of Contemporary Art, American Lung Association and Sharp Healthcare.
She has served as a presenter for a PRSA seminar on special events and is a member, and former board member, of PRSA’s Counselors Academy, a section for senior-level public relations counselors.
Recognitions include the 2019 PRSA Eva Irving Community Services Award, given to a PR professional whose volunteer efforts for nonprofit, philanthropic or public service organizations embody the traditions of volunteerism. She’s also been recognized by long term client Jewish Family Service with the Board Chair Awards in 2019 and was named to the San Diego Business Journal’s 2009 “San Diego Women Who Mean Business.” Walcher was named to the City of San Diego’s Arts & Culture Commission in 2025.
