The Policy & Innovation Center is a think tank and social impact incubator. The nonprofit organization conducts research and policy analysis to identify creative solutions to the biggest problems in San Diego and the nation. It builds cross-sector, multijurisdictional partnerships to advance those solutions. The nonprofit was established in 2021 with the world’s leading think tank, The Brookings Institution, as well as the County of San Diego and San Diego Foundation

After its first year, the Policy & Innovation Center hired JWC as a public relations firm with deep local government and public policy knowledge. JWC provides ongoing strategic communications support and builds awareness of the nonprofit with targeted government/policy, nonprofit, business and consumer/public audiences. It has been a successful client/agency relationship that has grown with the organization.

Services include media relations; managing all social media and e-mail marketing; content creation, including brochures, annual reports and other marketing materials; award nominations; press events; new website development and administration; and speaking opportunities and engagements, as well as crisis communications support, as needed.

The PR team must also remain keenly aware of news and trends regarding climate resilience, the local economy, housing affordability, water management, critical infrastructure, community wealth disparities, government funding sources and more to research and develop story ideas for the media, as well as draft engaging content for the Policy & Innovation Centers’s newsletters and social media channels.

With a staff full of accomplished research and policy professionals, JWC has created and secured recurring opportunities for the organization to share its expertise, including multiple local interviews for the Policy & Innovation Center’s chief economist each month around the region’s job data and what it means for San Diego. JWC also helped secure a monthly column in Voice of San Diego called “DC Explained” in which the organization’s senior vice president zeroes-in on one topic affecting the nation and analyzes its local impact.
