Did you stand in line for a new HD TV on Black Friday, or find a great deal on the latest must-have toy yesterday for Cyber Monday? Let’s not forget that the holidays are meant to be the season of giving.

Today is the fifth annual Giving Tuesday, a worldwide day of service that encourages small acts of kindness to generate positive change in local communities. At JWC, we represent a number of local nonprofits and are always searching for new ways to help give back!

If you’re looking to help support the community this Giving Tuesday, here are some great causes in San Diego to consider:

Jewish Family Service of San Diego
The lack of easy, accessible, and affordable transportation for seniors is a problem recognized at the national, state and local levels. To combat this, Jewish Family Service runs the largest senior transportation program in San Diego County, providing 250,000-plus rides to date through its “On the Go” program, giving seniors of all faiths and backgrounds back their independence and mobility. Services vary from shuttled field trips, to Uber-like transportation to appointments and errands, to rides to JFS’s Older Adult Centers.

United Way of San Diego County
By working with hundreds of nonprofits, schools, businesses and community leaders, United Way of San Diego County changes the odds for our children through access to quality education. United Way solves complex problems by bringing together community partners and resources to create permanent change in the community.
All donations made directly to United Way benefit local children and families.

Anza-Borrego Foundation
Celebrating its 50th anniversary this desert season, Anza-Borrego Foundation (ABF) is the official nonprofit of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park – the largest state park in California! ABF provides financial support for Park programs, acquires land for conservation in and around the Park, educates the public about the Park’s resources and supports relevant research in the region.
Become a first time member for $25 or give $50 for a commemorative 50th anniversary t-shirt. All members have access to free hikes, park and event discounts, and more.

San Diego County Bar Foundation
As the charitable arm of the San Diego County Bar Association, the Foundation helps provide access to justice for the underserved in San Diego. The organization has granted more than $2 million in funding to legal organizations throughout San Diego County that provide legal services and support to thousands of children, elderly, domestic violence victims, immigrants and veterans in San Diego.
Donate to aid San Diegans who cannot afford legal representation.
